(Are we) Wrong to speculate on Trump’s mental health ? (2018)

In light of the recent publication ‘Fire and Fury’ by Michael Wolff, CNN’s Michael Smerconish states that we are wrong to speculate on US President Donald Trump’s state of mental health, and that we’re too quick to give “armchair diagnoses”.

Dr Nassir Ghaemi, Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts is invited onto the show to discuss his book published in 2011, titled ‘A First Rate Madness’, where he claims “[w]hen our world is in tumult, mentally ill leaders function best”, and cites hubris syndrome which might be found in mentally sound leaders as a characteristic that can skew perceptions of performance and decision-making through power.

The clip starts from 9 minutes in, where Dr Ghaemi discusses hubris syndrome.
