“F. Scott Fitzgerald defined high intelligence as the ability to hold two opposed ideas in one’s mind and still function. By that measure, an American population in love with both Pope Francis and Donald Trump approaches genius.

“The superego and the id,” “Goofus and Gallant,” and “simple sugars and complex carbohydrates” are just a few of the metaphors leadership experts produced when asked to compare the two.

“The experts predictably surfaced dozens of differences between Francis and Trump. But they also brought up a surprising number of similarities (they are both authentic, dealmakers, populists, mavericks, charismatic and fearless) suggesting that when it comes to what Americans want from their leaders, they may be less conflicted than it appears.”

    The difference between the two is; Power v Influence… Trump is used to using his power to drive through his desires, and the inevitable development of hubris over his years of power have led him to believe in his total self.

    On the other hand, the Pope has come from a humble start point, where humility and constant exposure to hardship and suffering have led him to develop an influencing style of leadership. He has developed all the characteristics that Americans want from their leaders by being resourceful and resilient; I would argue that trump has done it in a different way.
